Comparison between a distorted-wave breakup model description and a quasi-free breakup model description of 3He projectile breakup data at 52 MeV

    Abstract

    Some of the recently measured inclusive 3He induced deuteron continuum spectra and elastic (3He, dp) coincidence data have been analysed in the framework of a post-form DWBA (DWBM) and a quasi-free breakup model (QFBM). A short description of both methods is presented and the differences between the two methods is pointed out. The results of the calculations with the post-form DWBA for inclusive deuteron spectra and elastic pd-coincidence data are in good agreement with the experimental data qualitatively as well as quantitatively. The advantage of the QFBM is its transparency and the possibility for calculating rather easily the cross sections of a large number of breakup processes individually. For small momentum transfer the QFBM calculations reproduce the data qualitatively equally well as the DWBM calculations. The comparison between the results of the calculations and the experimental data shows that the main difference between the two approaches shows up in the normalization factors needed to adjust the calculations to the experimental data.
