Abstract

An integrated Polarisation Converter, using a single waveguide with one slanted and one vertical wall has been fabricated using e-beam writing and a combination of RIE etching and wet chemical etching. The conversion efficiency of a 150 µm long converter waveguide is better than 80% and the insertion loss is 2 dB at ¿ = 1.55 µm. The total length of the converter is about 500 µm, including input and output tapers.
