Abstract

Cluster size and shape effects on the chem. bonding of adsorbed mols. and atoms are reviewed. Electronic structural features that control coordination preferences and Pauli-repulsion as well as orbital symmetry effects that play an important role along with orbital symmetry effects are discussed in terms of symmetry adapted group orbitals. Examples are given for CO, NH3, and H2 adsorbed in Group VIII and IB metal clusters. About 30 refs
