Coherent multicarrier technology for implementation in the customer access

Abstract

The use of coherent multi-carrier (CMC) techniques in the integrated broadband communication (IBC) network is proposed. Technology, implementation strategies, system engineering, system application areas, and evolution aspects are considered. We discuss the use of CMC systems for distributive and interactive services and consider related CMC transmission and switching issues. Details on the realization of a CMC demonstrator for a customer access and plans for implementation of the engineered equipment in Held trials are presented. Work is being carried out within the framework of the European Community RACE (Research and development in Advanced Communications technologies in Europe) projects.
