Abstract

Electron transfer in stacks: Hydrophobic effects, in combination with the tendency of -conjugated donor and acceptor chromophores to form a charge-transfer complex (see figure), have been used to create coaggregates of these molecules in water with an alternating face-to-face structure. A fast, sub-picosecond photoinduced electron transfer has been identified in these alternating stacks by pump-probe spectroscopy.
