Abstract

p-conjugated polymers and oligomers show charge transfer (CT) absorption bands when mixed with electron acceptors in chloroform soln. This is attributed to the formation of (ground state) donor-acceptor complexes in soln. By varying the concn. of the donor and acceptor, the extinction coeff. for the CT absorption and the assocn. const. of donor and acceptor are estd. The spectral position of the CT bands correlates with the electrochem. oxidn. potential of the p-conjugated donor and the redn. potential of the acceptor. [on SciFinder (R)]
