Characterisation of optical fibre tapers exploiting off-axis digital holography

Abstract

We report using digital holography for characterising optical fibre tapers. In a 6LP Few Mode Fibre, MDL increases from ~1.8dB to ~16.1dB for a 2 mm transition length when taper diameter is reduced from 125 μm to 25 μm.
