Abstract

In this paper the Open Source IFC model server project bimserver.org is introduced. A brief overview of existing IFC toolkits and model servers both as commercial applications as well as research prototypes is given. An implementation-independent meta-model from current IFC STEP EXPRESS schemas is generated and used as a venture point for a database persistency framework. A model server application is introduced that is based on this framework which enables the storage, maintenance and query of IFC based building information models for the collaboration among different stakeholders.
