Abstract

The report analyzes, in a systematic way, the EMC problems in power installations due to electrical transients produced by lightning strokes, direct to the installation structures or to ground, and by switching operations. It gives guidance for the evaluation of the most significant parameters, with respect to EMC, of the primary phenomena and of the generated disturbances. General criteria intended for the achievement of an optimum design of the protection measures are briefly outlined and examples of application to measuring systems in substations are presented
