    Abstract

An IEEE-programmable line generator was developed to produce a line pattern on a video monitor for the purpose of researeh on line spread functions of the human eye. This pattern consists of 625 horizontal lines with continuous intensities. Each line can have one out of 256 fixed intensity levels. This programmable line generator, the PLG, has the capacity to store a hundred different patterns and is managed by a "sequencer" which generates a userprogrammable sequence of the stored patterns. For this purpose the PLG can communicate with a host computer which, in turn, transmits the programmed sequences and patterns.
