Abstract

Understanding the basic structure and development of extratropical cyclones is still quite important in modern meteorology. For this purpose a simple analytical model has been developed that is qualitative as well as quantitative and also reveals modern concepts like the frontal fracture and conveyor belts. The model solution can be derived from the quasigeostrophic equations of the two-layer model with a few additional assumptions
