Abstract
A transmultiplexing technique using nonlinear polarization rotation in a single semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) was proposed. The proposed technique was applied to realize the first 1310 to 1550 nm transmultiplexing. An error-free 2 × 5 Gbit/s WDM at 1310 nm to 10 Gbit/s OTDM at 1550 nm conversion was demonstrated. The experimental results prove that the presented concept is a strong candidate for interfacing access systems and core networks in all-optical telecommunication networks.
