Abstract
IP multicast is used to deliver services to groups of users. However, this approach needs an infrastructure support in place, which makes the service not always available. We propose a novel application-level multicast approach based on mobile agents, which does not require any specific layer 3 support and suits the requirements of dynamic networking environments. We present a simulation-based comparative analysis between our approach and DVMRP, focussing on performance and scalability.
