A-posteriori error estimation for a Boltzmann-type equation

Abstract

This article presents a one-dimensional prototype for the Boltzmann equation and describes how to obtain the corresponding dual problem. The solution of the dual problem provides refinement indicators which in turn are used to improve the accuracy of finite-element approximations for a predefined goal functional.
