Abstract

A multi-mode antenna array with enhanced scan range and reduced scan losses is presented. The individual array element consists of a micostrip patch which is differentially fed through two capacitively coupled ports and a cylindrical dielectric resonator (DR) fed by a coplanar waveguide integrated in the middle of the patch. The radiation pattern of each array element can be reconfigured by changing the phase offset between the feeding ports of the patch and the DR so to excite two distinct radiating modes. When using a 8 x 4 planar array configuration, the achieved scan range extends from -70° to 70° along the horizontal plane, and from -20° to 30° along the vertical plane
