Abstract
In this paper an approach towards sheet control ina printer paper path is presented. To make the control problemfeasible, the complex overall control question is formulated ina hierarchical control set-up with a low level motor controlpart and a high level sheet control part. To understand theessence of the sheet control problem we consider a basic paperpath in which industrial constraints and requirements arerelaxed. Furthermore, the motor control part is assumed tobe ideal and the sheet dynamics are captured in the piecewiselinear modeling formalism. Based on the model of the sheetdynamics, the controller synthesis is carried out. Both stateand output feedback control designs are presented and stabilityand tracking performance are analyzed. The effectiveness of thecontrol design approaches is demonstrated via simulations.
