A people counting system with aggregated detection regions

Research output: PatentPatent publication

Abstract

Some embodiments are directed to a people counting system. An image processing unit obtains image data from a vision sensor, and extracts occupancy data from the image data for each detection region in a set of detection regions. A region processing unit obtains occupant variability measures of detection regions in the set of detection regions and determines a set of aggregated detection regions based on the occupant variability measures. Each aggregated detection region comprises one or more detection regions to effect increased aggregation of occupancy data of detection regions with a low occupant variability measure. An occupancy processing unit aggregates the extracted occupancy data into people count data for each aggregated detection region in the set of aggregated detection regions.
