Abstract

The design and manufacturing of a novel class of dielectric resonator antenna phased arrays operating at K-band is discussed in this study. The proposed array features enhanced beam-scanning capabilities in terms of scan loss as compared to alternative solutions based on printed antenna technology. The design is also optimized for cost effectiveness in combination with an easy and reliable mechanical assembly process, while enabling improved thermal management. A 64-element array model configured for operation in the 24-GHz ISM band is used here to illustrate the developed design strategy and the relevant benefits in terms of beam-scanning capability.
