Abstract
A new method for the introduction of large sample sizes using a temperature programmed injector and a multidimensional gas chromatographic system is described. In the system presented here, the vapors of the solvent are vented from the liner of the PTV injector via a wide-bore thick film column which is instalied in the first oven of a two-dimensional gas chromatographic system. Solvent vapors are discharged af ter the pre-column, while salutes are
efficiently trapped in the stationary phase. After the solvent elimination process is complete, the
first oven is heated and the solutes are transferred into the analytical column instalied in the
second oven. This new approach enables the transfer of large sample volumes up to a few hundred mul into a gas chromatographic system, while losses of volatile species are almost absent. The influence of some operational parameters on the solvent elimination, trapping of solutes and the performance of the system is demonstrated and discussed.
