    Abstract

Subsequent to earlier analyses (1989) of elastic and inelastic scattering of polarised protons in terms of the optical and collective models a description of the reactions 116Sn (p,p') and 124Sn(p,p') is presented in terms of shell-model states. Substantial core polarisation had to be included in order to obtain the correct absolute cross sections. Therefore, the influence of different nucleon-nucleon interactions or wavefunctions turned out to be rather small.
