Abstract

Recent progress in modulation techniques for data transmissions over step-index PMMA polymer optical fiber (SI-POF) has enabled speeds of 1 Gbit/s and above. In this paper it is shown for the first time that modulation and transmission of 1 Gbit/s over 25m SI-POF is feasible even with a light emitting diode (LED) in the transmitter.
