Abstract

We performed a field trial in order to evaluate the feasibility to install a 160 Gbit/s OTDM add/drop network. The experiments were carried out on 4 spans of 68.85 km deployed fibre within the network of the British Telecom. The installed network comprised an OTDM add/drop node realised by a gain-transparent ultrafast nonlinear interferometer, which was placed in the link of the 275 km field deployed G652 standard single mode fibre. We could find excellent operation of all add-/drop multiplexer (ADM) functionalities: Drop, through, and add functions as well as clock recovery. The impact of the ADM and the transmission distance on the performance is discussed.
