Abstract

Long-haul transmission (>1,000 km) with 1.6-b/s/Hz spectral efficiency is shown for the first time. Using polarization-multiplexed RZ-DQPSK, we demonstrate 40 × 85.6-Gb/s transmission over 1,700 km (18 × 94.5 km) of standard-single-mode fiber with 1-dB Q-margin.
