Layman's description
ELIoT drives the suitability of Optical Wireless Communication and LiFi a step further, to make it more suitable for a high-speed, reliable Internet of Things. Signify, chip maker Maxlinear, Nokia, KPN, Deutsche Telecom and Fraunhofer join in this Innovation Action to enhance the ITU g.9991 LiFi standard. Handover of the communication from one ceiling light point to another or towards existing radio is addressed at several layers in the network.
Key findings
Distributed MIMO in which multiple access points in the ceiling cooperate resolves a commonly heard concern that optical wireless communication is very sensitive to blocking the light.
