Ze Chang is a Post-doctoral researcher within the Mechanical Engineering department at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), in particular in the Mechanics of Materials section. His research portfolio is expansive, focusing on cutting-edge areas such as metamaterials, 3D printing, concrete modeling, structural optimization, and fracture analysis. Additionally, Ze serves as a distinguished guest researcher in soft robotic matter at AMOLF, showcasing his multidisciplinary expertise.

Under the guidance of esteemed mentors including Prof. Marc Geers, Dr. Ron Peerlings, and Dr. Ondřej Rokoš, Dr. Chang leads his Post-doctoral project titled “Numerical design and optimization of magnetic metamaterials and their experimental validations.” This innovative endeavor aims to pioneer a novel manufacturing method for magnetic metamaterials, with a special emphasis on achieving localized control of magnetic orientation within designed structures. These advancements promise transformative applications in soft robotics and mechanical engineering, particularly in magnetic pumping systems.

Ze's academic journey commenced with a Bachelor of Engineering degree from China University of Petroleum (East China) in 2015, marking the onset of his relentless pursuit of academic excellence. He furthered his scholarly pursuits by obtaining a Master of Science degree in structural engineering from Dalian University of Technology in 2018, where he specialized in the intricate domains of moisture transport and thermal transfer in cementitious materials.

Subsequently, Dr. Chang embarked on a doctoral odyssey at TU Delft in the Netherlands, where he delved deep into the realm of 3D concrete printing under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Branko Šavija and Prof. Erik Schlangen at the Microlab of CiTG at TUD. His relentless dedication and scholarly prowess culminated in the successful defense of his PhD thesis in February 2023, marking a significant milestone in his academic journey.

Dr. Chang amassed an impressive 8 years of extensive research experience, honing his skills in software development, material science, computational modeling, and machine learning.
