Valentina Bonito studied Biomedical Engineering at the School of Engineering of the University of Pisa, Italy. For her bachelor thesis she worked at the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine of the University of Pisa, investigating the cardiac metabolism of a thyroid hormone via cell culture studies and mathematical models. For her master thesis project, she worked at the Care & Health Applications Department of Philips Research (Eindhoven, the Netherlands), investigating laser-induced optical and thermal breakdown for skin rejuvenation. In September 2013, she received her master diploma summa cum laude from the University of Pisa.

In January 2014, she started a PhD project at the Biomedical Engineering Department, in the group of Soft Tissue Engineering and Mechanobiology, under the supervision of prof.dr. Frank Baaijens and dr. Anita Driessen-Mol first, and prof.dr. Carlijn Bouten and dr.ir. Anthal Smits later on. Her PhD project revolved around the use of instructive supramolecular materials for the modulation of the inflammatory response for in situ cardiovascular tissue engineering purposes. 

Since December 2015, Valentina works as a freelance journalist for the ICMS institute, and, in February 2018, she started working part-time as a communication officer for the Biomedical Engineering Department and the Communicatie Expertise Centrum of the Eindhoven University of Technology. Since September 2018, Valentina works full-time as Science Information Officer within the Press Team of the Communicatie Expertise Centrum of the Eindhoven University of Technology.
