Personal profile

Research profile

Tuba Stouthart is a doctoral candidate at the Eindhoven School of Education (ESoE), Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). She holds an integrated bachelor and master degree in teaching Physics from Bogazici University, Turkey. She has worked as a Physics teacher since 2017 at international schools, aiming at delivering the International Baccalaureate Physics curriculum. In 2022, she started her PhD focusing on education for sustainable development (ESD), sustainable development goals (SDGs), socioscientific issues (SSI) and teacher competences, funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO) under the Dudoc-beta programme.

Her doctoral research project aims to reach a better understanding of STEM teachers' competences and training needs to implement sustainable development goals through socioscientific issues in Dutch secondary education. Implementing SSI into STEM lessons and developing citizenship skills such as argumentation, reasoning, and evidence-based decision making are crucial to achieve the SDGs. This research project will contribute to the knowledge development about teacher competences for integrating ESD in secondary school STEM subjects.
