Academic background

Sjonnie Boonstra obtained his MSc degree in Structural Design in April 2016 at Eindhoven University of Technology. Since May 2016 he is Doctoral Candidate at Eindhoven University of Technology, Department of the Built Environment, in the group of Applied Mechanics and Design. He published two journal articles and six conference papers and received the EG-ICE 2016 best paper award. He supervises several MSc students, he has been an assessor for the TU/e Honors Academy, and he has been a reviewer for an international conference. Finally, he is a member of the graduate school Engineering Mechanics.

Research profile

Sjonnie Boonstra is a Doctoral Candidate in the Department of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). He focuses on the optimisation of building spatial designs by researching methods that can efficiently optimise building designs for multi-disciplinary objectives (structural- and thermal design). For his research he is interested in Structural Design Optimisation, Applied Mechanics and Computer Aided Design. The project that Sjonnie Boonstra works on is titled “Excellent Buildings via Forefront MDO, Lowest Energy Use, Optimal Spatial and Structural Performance”. His research is funded by NWO-TTW (project number 13596) and is conducted in close cooperation with Associate Professor Hèrm Hofmeyer of Eindhoven University of Technology and Associate Professor Michael T.M. Emmerich and Doctoral Candidate Koen van der Blom who both are from Leiden University.
