Currently, Shoupeng Cao is a Ph.D. candidate working on biodegradable nanomedicine particles in the group of Prof. Jan van Hest. The chemical-physical properties of nanomedicine particles (for instance size, shape and charge) strongly affect their interaction with biological fluids, cells and tissues which determines their in vitro/in vivo performance. Within this in mind, Shoupeng has undertaken the task to engineer and develop biodegradable nanomedicine particles with controlled size, shape, and function, via the synthesis and controlled self-assembly of well-defined polymer building blocks, as well as smart post-engineering.

Academic background

From 2013, Shoupeng Cao started his Master study on the topic of glyco-nanonamedicine particles for targeting delivery to cancer cells at Northwest A&F University under the supervision of Prof. Yuxin Pei and Prof. Zhichao Pei. In 2016, he received his MSc and graduated as Outstanding Graduates and Outstanding Master's Thesis. From July 2016, he moved to the Netherlands and pursued his Ph.D. research on the topic of biodegradable nanomedicine particles under the supervision of Prof. Jan van Hest in the Bio-Organic Chemistry group.
