Shaokang Zhang is a doctoral candidate in the Polymer Technology group at the Eindhoven University of Technology. His work focuses on the numerical prediction of short fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite mechanical properties. The aim of this project is to predict the anistropic mechanical behavior of short fiber reinforced thermoplastics through finite element analysis of representative volume elements. His work includes modelling the effect of fiber morphology (orientation, aspect ratio and weight fraction) and matrix properties (physical ageing) on the composite properties. The final goal of the project is to build a direct structure-property relation, which inputs local anisotropic parameters to an existed macroscopic model for rapid product performance prediction.

Academic background

Shaokang Zhang obtained his bachelor's degree of Information and Computational Science in 2011 at Jimei University, China. He started his master program of Computational Science in Engineering in 2012 at TU Braunschweig and finished his master thesis on “A spectral method to solve multi-physics coupled elastoviscoplastic boundary value problems” in 2015 at the Max Planck institute for iron research. In 2016, he started his PhD study at the group of polymer technology, TU Eindhoven.
