Rik Dellaert is a doctoral candidate in the Turbulence and Vortex Dynamics (WDY) group at the faculty of Applied Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). The goal of Dellaert’s research is to improve plastic waste separation based on magnetic density separation (MDS). To accomplish this the flow inside this machine is studied with laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV), particle image velocimetry (PIV) and particle tracking velocimetry (PTV). Before he started his PhD researched, Dellaert did his Master at the Chemical Engineering department working on bubbling gas-solid fluidized beds with borescopic particle image velocimetry (BPIV).

Academic background

Rik Dellaert started his studies at the bottom level of ‘vmbo’ after which he moved up to ‘mbo’, ‘hbo’, pre-master and finally his master at Chemical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). After graduating in 2016, he started his PhD research at Applied Physics on plastic separation with magnetic density separation (MDS), which he is still pursuing today. He is also a member of the PhD council of Applied Physics.
