Quote
“All knowledge forms one whole”. This quote from J.H. Newman summarizes my view on research and education. Even if our fields of study narrow more and more as they get more specialized, I think that any effort to broaden our education is essential in order not to become nearsighted and – ultimately – faulty.
Research profile
Ramiro Serra is an assistant professor with the Electrical Energy Systems Group at the TU/e department of Electrical Engineering. His research interests involve electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), statistical electromagnetics and wireless coexistence and interference studies. He has a vast expertise in the design, modeling, construction, characterization, calibration and operation of electromagnetic mode-stirred reverberation chambers. Other research lines include the modeling of noise propagation in IC substrates and EMC aspects between large infrastructures. He is a passionate and devoted educator.
Academic background
Ramiro Serra received his MSc degree in electronic engineering from the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 2000. In 2004, he then obtained a post-master degree specializing in technological applications of nuclear energy from Instituto Balseiro (Bariloche, Argentina). In 2009 he obtained his PhD degree in electronics and communications engineering from Politecnico di Torino (Italy). He is currently an assistant professor within the Electrical Energy Systems group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands. Dr. Serra is serving on various international committees. He is a member of the International Steering Committee of the International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC Europe). He is the Chair of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) Commission E (Noise and Interference) and Secretary of the General National URSI Committee in the Netherlands. He is a member and work package champion of the SC 77B/CISPR-A joint working group for the standard IEC 61000-4-21 on Reverberation Chambers and member of the CIRED/CIGRE joint working group C4.31 on EMC between communication circuits and power systems.
