Raúl Pagán Muñoz is part time Postdoctoral Researcher in the Building Acoustics chair of the Unit Building Physics and Services (BPS) at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and Manager of the European H2020 project Acoutect (2017-2020). Raúl’ research interests are related with numerical and experimental methods to evaluate sound propagation in the built environment. His thesis revolves on the implementation of a novel hybrid Fourier pseudospectral / discontinuous Galerkin time-domain method for computing sound propagation in domains with arbitrary boundary conditions and shapes. Additionally, he is investigating the applicability of the diffusion equation to compute sound propagation in urban environments and performing some experiments in real urban scenarios with canyon-type streets. As Project Manager, Raúl collaborates in the coordination of the initial training network Acoutect. The project marries “Acoustics” and “Architecture” and responds to the important role that Acousticians have in the design of modern buildings.

Academic background

Raúl Pagán Muñoz received his MSc degree on Sound and Vibration in 2011 from Chalmers University of Technology. In 2016, Raúl completed a three year research period at Eindhoven University of Technology as Early-Stage Researcher within a FP7 Marie Curie action of the European Union in the project “SONORUS: Urban Sound Planner”. Before starting his research career, he was working for some years at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in Spain, mainly as Project Manager and for the Spanish Accreditation Body (ENAC) as lead assessor and acoustic technical expert. In the last years in Spain, Raúl worked at the Centre for Applied Acoustics and Non-Destructive Evaluation, a shared institute between UPM and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) where his research ambitions awoke.
