Research profile

Peter H.N.de With received his PhD (1992) from Univ. of Technology Delft, The Netherlands (NL). In the period 1984-1997, he worked for Philips Research Eindhoven (NL) on video compression and chaired a cluster for programmable TV architectures as senior TV Systems Architect. In 1997-2000, he was full professor at the Univ. of Mannheim, Germany, on Computer Engineering. For the succeeding 7 years till 2007, he was working in software companies (CMG, Logica) and acted as a principal consultant and distinguished business consultant. He was also part-time professor at the Eindhoven Univ. of Technology, heading the chair on Video Coding and Architectures in the Signal Processing Dept.

In 2008-2010, he was VP Video Analysis at Cyclomedia Technology and established video analysis within the company. Since 2011, he is full professor at Eindhoven Univ. of Technology, faculty Electrical Engineering, chairing the VCA group and till 2018 scientific director of the Centre for Care and Cure Technologies within the EE faculty. He is also international expert in video analysis for healthcare and safety and security applications, and has been involved in multiple EU projects on video analysis, object and behavior recognition with the industry.

Prof. De With is Fellow of the IEEE (2007), member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities, and recently became Life Fellow of IEEE (2023). He has (co-)authored over 700 papers on video coding, 2D/3D video analysis, architectures, and their realization. He is (co-)recipient of multiple paper awards of the IEEE CES, VCIP, IS&T and IEEE Transactions papers.

Academic background

Peter de With studied Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and obtained his PhD degree from Delft University of Technology in 1992. From 1984 to 1997, he researched video compression and was senior TV Systems Architect at Philips Research. From 1997 to 2000, De With was Full Professor at the University of Mannheim (Germany). He joined LogicaCMG in Eindhoven as principal consultant in 2000, and was then appointed part-time professor of Video Coding and Architectures at TU/e. De With was Vice President of VP Video (Analysis) Technology at Cyclomedia Technology from 2008 to 2010. In 2011, he was appointed Full Professor at TU/e, scientific director of Care and Cure Technology (C3Te) and theme leader of Smart Diagnosis at SA Health.
