Pelin Oymaci obtained her BSc. degree at the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, Gebze Institute of Technology, Turkey. She did her MSc at the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, Izmir Institute of Technology, Turkeyon the project Development of whey protein isolate based nanocomposite food packaging films incorporated with chitosan and zein nanoparticles. After her MSc she started at PhD student in the Membrane Materials and Processes Group, Department of Chemical Engineering & Chemistry, Eindhoven University of Technology.
Her expertises are Antifouling coatings, Membrane development, Fouling control andForward osmosis
The goal of the project Development of membranes for forward osmosis applications in food processing is to develop membranes for FO processes to achieve low fouling and better performance in whey and manure processing. The project has different aspects to focus on: membrane preparation, membrane characterization and membrane process performance evaluation. In membrane preparation, antifouling coatings will be studied throughout the project by using zwitterionic polymers to reduce the protein attachment on the surface. Characterization techniques like contact angle measurement, FTIR, zeta potential and SEM will be used to analyze the membranes. Performance evaluation of the membranes will be studied with an FO setup, using artificial and real industrial feed streams.
