Promoting health and well-being through real estate management and urban development
Research profile
Pauline van den Berg is currently a tenured Assistant Professor at the department of the Built Environment at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her research focuses on the healthy and social living environments, aiming on extending theories and using advanced modeling approaches to contribute empirical evidence on the impact of residential environments on human behavior and quality of life and the consequences for housing, real estate management and urban planning.
Specific areas of research are housing types and living environments that stimulate (local) social networks and social interaction, social cohesion, social satisfaction and reduction of loneliness, experiences of urban green and how this relates to subjective well-being, new technologies that promote healthy and social behavior, child and senior friendly neighborhoods, and walking and cycling friendly environments (promoting physical activity). To investigate these relations innovative data collection methods such as choice experiments with virtual environments and advanced modeling approaches such as mixed logit models, latent class models and structural equation models are used.
Academic background
Pauline van den Berg obtained an a MSc in Cultural Anthropology from Radboud University, Nijmegen (named Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen), an MSc in Architecture, Building and Planning (TU/e) and a PhD in Urban Planning (TU/e).
Pauline has presented her work at various international scientific conferences and has been published in leading journals. Pauline regularly supervises PhD and PDEng students in the domain of healthy and social living environments.
