Patrick Bek studied History of International Relations (BA) at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Colonial and Global History (MA) at Leiden University. Currently he pursues a PhD at the School of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences in the Technology, Innovation & Society (TIS) group. His historical research is part of the Bicycle Challenges: Past, Present, and Future of Sustainable Urban Mobility (SUM) program. Patrick works on a dissertation on transport poverty and transport inequality in twentieth-century Netherlands, examining how and why people’s access to everyday mobility in the Netherlands changed over time and along lines of class, gender, and ethnicity.
