Research profile

Oktay Turetken is a Full Professor in Information Systems at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and the Chair of the Industrial Engineering Bachelor Program. He is also a member of The European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS), Münster, Germany. He has been a visiting researcher at the Queensland University of Technology. He is acting as an Associate Editor of the journal of BISE - Business & Information Systems Engineering. 

Oktay’s research focuses on engineering business models for sustainable digital solutions, with an emphasis on collaborative business models that enable multi-stakeholder value co-creation. He develops methods, tools, and models to support the design, evaluation, performance management, and implementation of such models. His work further emphasizes traceable alignment between business models and operating models - processes, governance, and digital infrastructures/IT systems- to ensure their viability and resilience over time. The objective is to help organizations translate technological potential into sustained economic, environmental, and societal benefits.

Oktay also works on capability maturity models that help organizations assess and strengthen their maturity in advanced data analytics, business process management, and business model engineering. 

Academic background

Oktay Turetken has a PhD degree in Information Systems. From 2008 to 2012, he was a research fellow at the European Research Institute in Service Science at Tilburg University, where he contributed to European Union (EU) FP7-funded projects on service science and business process management. Prior to that, from 1999 to 2008, he worked as a software and business process improvement consultant, participating in and leading large-scale projects on enterprise system implementation, software process improvement, and project and portfolio management. During this period, he also served as an adjunct lecturer in METU's Software Management master’s program.

Since 2014, he has led and contributed to multiple EU and industry-funded projects, particularly in the mobility domain. He co-founded MobilitEU, a not-for-profit initiative dedicated to fostering open Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) platforms across Europe. Additionally, he serves as an Expert Member of the Foresight Group on Future Mobility for People and Goods within the European Automotive Research Partners Association (EARPA). He is also a member of the MaaS Alliance's Business Models and Governance Working Group, a public-private partnership that aims to build a strong foundation for the implementation and adoption of MaaS across Europe

He is a regular contributor to journals, such as Business & Information Systems Engineering, Business Process Management Journal, and Information and Software Technology.
