Oktay Turetken is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research interest centers around the broad topic of 'business engineering'. His main focus in this research domain is on ‘business model engineering' in the information systems/business process management (BPM) context. He focuses on the design, evaluation, and operationalization of service-dominant business models. Within the business engineering domain, his research also extends to the field of service engineering, and covers topics related to business service identification, design and management. He also performs research on the organizational capabilities related to the strategic, people and cultural factors (i.e. soft factors of BPM) that influence an organization’s ability to (re)design and manage 'business models' and 'process models'. Current research projects focus on Business Model Engineering, Maturity Models in Business Process Management, Digital Transformation/Innovation.

Academic background

Oktay Turetken obtained his PhD in Information Systems from Middle East Technical University (METU), Turkey. From 2008 until late 2012, he worked as a research fellow in the European Research Institute in Service Science at Tilburg University, where he participated in EU funded FP7 research projects on service science and business process management. Between 1999 and 2008, he worked as a software and business process improvement consultant in industry, and participated in and led a number of projects dealing with software process improvement, enterprise resource planning system implementation, large-scale software intensive system specification and acquisition, and project & portfolio management system implementation. In 2007 and 2008, he was also an adjunct lecturer in the Software Management master program at METU.  

Since 2014, he has led and worked in several projects in the mobility and C-ITS domain. He is a regular contributor to journals such as Business & Information Systems Engineering, Information and Software Technology, and Journal of Software: Evolution and Process.
