Academic background

Niki Joosten did the BSc Molecular Life Sciences at Wageningen University and the minor Pharmaceutical Chemistry at Universidad de Chile. She got a MSc degree in Molecular Life Sciences, specialiazation Physical Chemistry at Wageningen University. Her master thesis was partly conducted at Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona. She has done her internship at DSM Coating and Resins. 

In May 2019 she started her PhD in the Membrane Materials and Processes group and Stimuli-responsive Functional Materials & Devices group, Departments of Chemical Engineering & Chemistry, Eindhoven University of Technology and in collaboration with Wetsus, European center of excellence for sustainable water technology, Leeuwarden. 

Her expertises are surface chemistry, microcontact printing and Metal-Organic-Frameworks.

Research profile

The aim of the project Freestanding membranes with ordered, self aligned pores for water purification and ion recovery is the development of self-organized liquid crystal polymers with well-defined uniform pores in the nm range and their subsequent optimization and application for large scale industrial processes for water treatment.
