Research profile

Nicole Huijts is a researcher at the Human-Technology Interaction group of the Eindhoven University of technology. The focus of her research is on risk perception and public acceptance of new technologies in the domains of energy, ICT and transport. She particularly has a track-record in research on the public acceptance of new sustainable energy technologies and risk perception of in-home IoT, focusing amongst other things on the role of emotions and fairness. 

Nicole mainly uses a social psychological approach (environmental psychology and risk perception), and has a lot of experience with multi-displinary research. She is a member of the board of the Benelux Chapter of the Society for Risk Analysis-Europe and takes part in the UU/TUe Fair Energy Transition Consortium

Nicole is currently a postdoc in the European project “Cocoon: Emotion psychology meets cyber-physical security in IoT smart homes” at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Nicole previously worked as a postdoc at the Delft University of Technology on the NWO funded projects “Developing socially responsible innovations: The role of values and moral emotions” and “Moral Emotions and Risk Politics”.

Nicole has an MSc degree with honorable mention in Technology and Society from the Eindhoven University of Technology, and a PhD degree from the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, Delft University of Technology.
