Research profile
Nico Dellaert is an Associate Professor and Chair of Quantitative Analysis of Stochastic Models for Logistic Design in the department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His research has always been related to quantitative modeling of business processes. Finding the appropriate model for a specific process is key in this research. Topics are varying from the design of sewer systems, insurance claim behaviour, container terminal planning to production-inventory control, transportation planning and health care operations planning.
Currently, the prime research interests are on the integration of capacity and production decisions, on city logistics and multimodal transportation and on healthcare planning. In his work he uses a large variety of mathematical modeling techniques. In most cases, companies or hospitals have been involved in the research. Nico has been teaching various courses related to inventory control, goods flow control, health care logistics, system dynamics and to the design of operations planning and control systems.
Academic background
Nico Dellaert studied mathematics at TUDelft and did his PhD research on Production to Order at the mathematics department of TUE, supervised by Jaap Wessels and Jacob Wijngaard. He held positions at the Econometric Institute of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and Ortec Consultants in Gouda. He rejoined TUE in 1998. From 2002-2011 he was the director of the International Program in Logistics Management Systems at that university. For many years he was the Head of the Health Care Operations Lab of the OPAC group. Nico has received the IIE Transactions Best Paper Award (2012) and the EURO Award for Best EJOR Review Paper (2016).
