Montijn van de Ven works as a researcher and PhD candidate at the Information Systems (IS) group, Department of Industrial Engineering and Innovation Sciences (IE&IS), at the Eindhoven University of Technology. His research focuses on business models, business processes, and performance management. In particular, he is studying how to define and monitor performance indicators for business models.
Montijn published articles in scholarly journals, including the Journal of Business Models, Business Process Management Journal, and Journal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic Commerce Research. He presented his work at several international conferences, including the European Conference on Information Systems, Business Model Conference, and Bled eConference. He serves as a co-chair for the mini-track "Data Marketplaces beyond Conceptualization: Business Models, Governance, and Societal Concerns" at the Americas Conference on Information Systems 2023. He presented his PhD research at the doctoral consortium of the International Conference on Business Process Management in 2021.
Montijn has supervised 2 Bachelor and 3 Master thesis projects and is currently supervising 2 Master thesis projects. He assists in teaching two Bachelor courses on digitalization and the design of business information systems and a Master course on business analysis.
Montijn studied Complex Systems Engineering & Management at the Delft University of Technology, from which he obtained his Bachelor and Master degree. During his Bachelor study, he completed elective courses in Business Studies at the Leiden Law School of Leiden University. He conducted his Bachelor thesis project at bol.com, the largest online store in The Netherlands, where he developed strategies for increasing third-party seller satisfaction. During his Master study, he studied in Germany for one semester at the School of Management of the Technical University of Munich. He carried out his Master thesis project within the Horizon 2020 project TRUSTS (Trusted Secure Data Sharing Space), in which he investigated business models for data marketplaces. His Master thesis research resulted in an academic publication.
