4D printing: adding an extra dimension

Marc del Pozo Puig is doctoral candidate in the Stimuli-responsive Functional Materials and Devices (SFD) under the supervision of Prof. dr. A. P. H. J. Shenning and Prof. dr. ing. C. W. M. Bastiaansen. He is currently working in the project Dynamic Polymer Materials for Additive Manufacturing (DyNAM). Marc is combining several additive manufacturing techniques, such as direct ink writing or stereolithography, with responsive materials, such as liquid crystals. Marc’s goal is to create externally-stimulated responsive 3D objects, also known as 4D objects, to increase the complexity and smartness of future devices

Academic background

Marc del Pozo Puig was born in Girona 1993, Catalonia. In 2015 he received a Bachelor’s degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB). Marc did his bachelor project at the Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona (ICMAB) in nanocomposites of graphene and an internship at the Electron Microscopy Unit at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2). Complementary to his undergraduate courses, he undertook three extracurricular research stays at the UAB, ICN2, and Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).

In 2015 he moved to the Netherlands to perform the Research Master degree in Nanomaterials at the Utrecht University (UU). Marc performed his master’s thesis at the Molecular Biophysics group at the UU in synthesis and characterization of core-shell particles. After a 6 months internship at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) in anisotropically-shaped magnetic core-shell particles he graduated in 2017. Since then, Marc is a doctoral candidate in the Stimuli-responsive Functional Materials and Devices (SFD) group at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e).
