Laura Donk obtained her BSc Molecular Science and Technology at Delft University of Technology and Leiden University, wtih her BSc thesis on electrochemical doping stability. She continued her studies in Delft with the MSc Chemical Engineering. Her focus lied in electrochemical energy applications, and she applied this knowledge in her master thesis project on CO2 reduction via suspension flow electrodes. After graduation, she joined the Inorganic Materials and Catalysis group at Eindhoven University of Technology. Her expertise is on electrocatalytic testing and electrode preparation.
Laura is a doctoral candidate (PhD student) in electrocatalysis under supervision of prof.dr.ir. Emiel Hensen and dr. Marta Costa Figueiredo. Her research aims to lower the energy losses in alkaline water electrolyzers, by developing spin magnetic catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction. Electrochemical hydrogen production is currently limited by the high losses in the paired oxygen evolution reaction. Here, four electrons are transferred and the magnetic moment of the product is changed, resulting in a sluggish reaction. Her work focuses on electrocatalytic testing of new catalyst materials and understanding the influence of a magnetic field on this reaction.
