Research profile

Kerstin Lux-Gottschalk is an Assistant Professor in the Centre for Analysis, Scientific Computing and Applications (CASA) at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Eindhoven University of Technology. She is a broadly based applied mathematician who draws a lot of motivation from real-world applications and challenges that society is facing. Her research lies at the interface of uncertainty quantification, differential equations (in particular numerical methods for stochastic differential equations), and optimal control. In particular, she works on uncertainty quantification of bifurcations in random ordinary differential equations. The aim is to contribute to a risk assessment of tipping points (critical transitions) in complex mathematical models from climate science, epidemiology, and ecology.

Academic background

Kerstin Lux-Gottschalk completed her Bachelor and Master studies at the University of Mannheim, Germany, including a semester abroad at the Université Nice Sophia Antipolis, France. She obtained her PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Simone Göttlich from the University of Mannheim with her thesis entitled “Optimal inflow control in hyperbolic supply systems with uncertain demand”. She continued her academic journey as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Multiscale and Stochastic Dynamics lead by Prof. Dr. Christian Kuehn at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Kerstin Lux-Gottschalk joined TU/e in July 2023 as an Assistant Professor.
