Research profile

Johan Lukkien is a Full Professor in the cluster IRIS (Interconnected Resource-aware Intelligent Systems) at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Eindhoven University of Technology. He is full professor System Architecture and Networking since 2008 and served as dean of the department from 2017 until 2022. Key areas of expertise include embedded real-time systems and system and software architecture

Until 2000, Johan was primarily involved in large-scale simulations in physics and chemistry, resulting in the Kinetix software package of Biovia's Materials Studio. Since 2000, his research focus shifted to the application domain of networked resource-constrained embedded systems (called Cyber-Physical Systems, CPS) with a focus on architecture and protocols. Contributions are in the area of component-based middleware for resource-constrained CPSs, Quality of Service and schedulability analysis. Recent work targets the development processes of CPSs and the role that data and machine learning play.

Since 2022, Johan works also at TNO-ESI for 3 days per week.
