Academic background

Hossein Eslami Amirabadi was born in Yazd, Iran in 1988. He obtained his BSc in Mechanical engineering from University of Tehran, Iran in 2011. Charmed by interesting topics in the field of Fluid Dynamics, he worked on “drag reduction in turbulent flow using polymeric additives” for his Bachelor’s thesis.   After finishing his BSc, he joined Prof. Jaap den Toonder’s group at Eindhoven University of Technology as an MSc student in 2011. In collaboration with Philips Research, he worked on “Integrating responsive surfaces into microfluidic devices” for his Master’s thesis. As a proof of concept, he focused on designing and fabricating a switchable passive micro-mixer using temperature sensitive hydrogel. Immediately after finishing his MSc, he started his PhD in September 2013 with prof. Jaap den Toonder in Microsystems group at TU/e.

Research profile

The research of Hossein Eslami Amirbadi focuses on “Cancer metastasis-on-a-chip”. In collaboration with Philips Research in Eindhoven, Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam and Microsystems group at TU/e, he is developing a microfluidic chip which can create a human cancer metastasis (from a primary tumor (Breast cancer) to a metastatic site) model on a chip. His current research areas are: · Biological Microfluidics · Intelligent Surfaces in Microfluidics · Micro-fabrication Technology · Experimental Fluid Dynamics · Computational fluid dynamics
