Research profile
Harry Timmermans is a Full Professor and Chair of Urban Planning at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). His areas of expertise include urban planning, travel behavior research, and consumer demand modeling.
Research activities of his multidisciplinary group concern the development and application of innovative models and ICT tools for urban planning and transportation. Several projects are related to innovative ICT apps, smart cities, urban transportation, and advance modeling techniques for urban and transportation planning. The group has an international reputation in the development of activity-based models of travel demand and new mobility options. Harry is an expert in the area of integrating electric vehicle solutions into consumer practices and the related effects on the built environment.
Academic background
Harry Timmermans has a PhD in Spatial Sciences from Nijmegen University. He also holds an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Hasselt (UHasselt), Belgium. Harry has been awarded several prestigious grants and has won many (best paper) awards with his PhD students. In addition, he serves on many TRB and WCTR Committees, including the Public Transportation Marketing and Fare Policy committee. He was elected vice-chair of the International Association of Travel Behavior Research. He has co-authored more than 500 publications in urban planning, transportation, artificial intelligence, marketing, and environmental psychology. Harry has also accepted several invitations to join national and international committees on smart cities and smart mobility. He is (associate) editor of journals in urban planning and transportation.
