Research profile
Hamed Faghanpourganji (Hamed F. Ganji) completed his PhD in the Power and Flow group within the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His research, supervised by Prof. Jeroen van Oijen, Prof. Ines Lopez Arteaga, and Dr. Viktor Kornilov, focused on thermo-acoustic instability in domestic heating appliances. His doctoral thesis, "Burner Development Strategies in the Context of Thermoacoustic Instability," is available here
Academic background
Hamed Faghanpourganji has been involved in the field of engineering acoustics since 2010, beginning during his undergraduate studies. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Babol Noshirvani University of Technology (BUT) in 2012. During an internship at Iran Khodro, the largest automotive company in Iran, his bachelor's thesis focused on the brake squeal phenomenon, examining instability in a minimal brake system model.
In parallel, he worked on an extracurricular research project addressing nonlinear traveling shallow water wave equations, employing approximation techniques to explore their behavior.
In 2013, he began a master's program in Aerospace Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology, completing his thesis in February 2016. His research was in the area of computational acoustics, particularly the interaction between fluid and solid structures. The work examined sound transmission and radiation in a three-dimensional closed cavity in the pre and post flutter domain.
Following his master's studies, he worked as a part-time researcher/lecturer at BUT for approximately two years.
He then joined the University of Twente as a trainee in the Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) program in Energy and Process Technology. His project involved the development of a flat-spectrum acoustic filter intended for use in custom hearing protection. The work included numerical simulations, as well as the design, fabrication, and testing of the filter. He completed the PDEng program in July 2020.
In the same year, he started a PhD at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Power and Flow group. His research focused on thermoacoustic instability in domestic heating appliances, combining numerical and experimental methods.
